THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD is used on a few occasions in Scripture to refer to one of two things.
Firstly, it refers to Jesus. In John 8:12, Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Secondly, it refers to His disciples. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus says to them, “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
This phrase is so powerful because it reflects the reality of the world we live in. Darkness exists, and it prevents us from seeing the things of God. Jesus was sent into our world to pierce this darkness and bring us the light of life. Now, with this light in us, we – His church – are called to be the light of the world so that God’s glory may be experienced by all.
Over the last three years, we have seen how easy the world can be plunged into darkness. Coming together as the G12 family in Asia wasn’t even possible. But, the season has changed and it is time for us to come together again. Conference is more than just a gathering of the G12 family in Asia. It is a time for us to rise up once more and receive afresh our calling to shine as THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
